The Monotone Symphony

Yves Klein, whose work is featured in the Virginia Dwan collection, is considered the most influential and controversial French artist to emerge in the 1950s. He is remembered above all for his use of a single color, the rich shade of ultramarine that he made his own: International Klein Blue. Klein’s highly eccentric symphony requires a 32-piece orchestra and 40-voice choir to sustain a D-major chord for 20 minutes, and then to sit, frozen in silence for 20 minutes.

Concert Artists of Baltimore and the Baltimore Rock Opera Society

Thursday 3/31 at 7pm and 8:30pm

Friday 4/1 at 8pm and 9:30pm

The colossal worlds of rock and classical music converge in an epic musical fusion between Concert Artists of Baltimore (CAB) and the Baltimore Rock Opera Society (BROS): Convergence Maximus at Light City! This large scale musical event will feature CAB’s full orchestra and chorus accompanied by rock n’ roll musicians performing selections from Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto, and the “Triumphal March” from Verdi’s Aida, and select songs from BROS original rock musical productions – including Valhella, Murdercastle, and a new piece from The Electric Pharaoh – arranged to include CAB’s professional choral and orchestral forces. The evening will be highlighted by the signature collaborative arrangement of Beethoven’s colossal masterpiece, Symphony No. 9.
